Our Halibut Fishing Trip

So can you find Ninilchik on the map?

Baden and Brian (my bro-in-law) decided they wanted to go on another halibut charter this year. Because they had so much fun last year:) Brian rented a camp trailer from the military base complete with a kitchen, toilet and shower! I have to admit we'll probably never go back to a tent (at least not with little kids). Baden's cousin Coby decided to meet us down there and go fishing too. So Memorial Day weekend we loaded up the gear and drove in a rain storm most of the way down. It was still a beautiful drive with tons of tiny waterfalls and still snowy mountains. We stayed in Soldotna the first night and then had a beautiful scenic drive along the coast down to Ninilchik.

We stayed at Alaska Fishing Fever (the charter place) and I must say the view was breath taking, however, we were on a cliff about 109 feet above the sea. The only thing separating us from that cliff was a gill net fence that didn't even span the whole cliff side. It was very nerve wracking. Needless to say we didn't let the boys play out side unattended. There was one instance where Baden, Brian, and Lorna were all outside with the kids when they looked up to see Wyatt on the other side of the fence! His foot had become tangled in the gill netting and he was losing his balance about to fall over the edge when Baden jumped up and sprinted(which Baden would tell you he NEVER does) 50 feet to grab him before he fell. I was in the trailer putting Troy down for a nap so I didn't even know until Lorna confessed to me what happened and that they decided it was best not to tell me. TERDS. Looking back I'm glad they waited to tell me cause I know I would have freaked out.(And Baden might not be with us today:)
Parker had so much fun sleeping in the trailer and drinking all the soda pop a little boy could ask for. He is such a good boy and a great help to me:)

This is Mt. Redoubt, one of three volcanoes that we could see from our campsite. The other two were Mt. Illiamna and Mt. Augustine, all part of the 'Ring of Fire'. It is fascinating, and humbling, to me to be so close to so many volcanoes.

One of the charter owners' son was driving this fourwheeeler around while Parker just drooled. I was more than a little nervous when they offered to let him ride it. I could just imagine him driving it right off the cliff! But Parker proved himself to be a cautious driver and had an hour or so of fun giving Wyatt and Alex (Coby's son ) rides around the property.

Troy just loved being outside in the warm sunshine. I keep getting comments from everyone, saying how white his skin is so I thought we would work on his tan a little.

This is Baden, still green from the fishing boat. Poor Baden and Brian were seasick the whole time! Coby didn't get sick at all and had a blast reeling fish in while the other two barfed. Lorna has pictures of there fish that I'll add later. Baden wanted to go out on the Anchor river that night and try to catch a king salmon before we left, but the boys had missed him all day and we begged him to stay. REALLY who can resist S'mores?

Wyatt roasting Starbursts or "busterstars" as Parker calls them.
I'm glad he stayed:)
